THE JUBII LOGO
Made with a black and white hand scanner

The first logo was not a real logo, just something I put together since we needed to have a logo. At that time, nobody knew what the Internet looked like, and all magazines and TV channels were showing pictures of a spider and a spider's web or a globe with the numbers 1 and 0 flying around it. Great times…

First Jubii logo
27/11 1995
The very first Jubii logo.
Was in use for the first year after Jubii was established. The "C" in the corner of the logo is symbolizing that Jubii was a part of the ISP company "Cybernet"
But we wanted to make a good and unique logo for Jubii. The idea was to make some thing Danish, the fact that we were a Danish company, and the "or not to be" was taken a quote from Hamlet. Hamlet is a very famous story about a Danish prince, written by William Shakespeare around year 1600. It also rimed on Jubii, so we picked that. The only problem about this was that it was in English and we were trying to communicate that this was a Danish site, but it worked out nevertheless.

Back in the days when we started Jubii, we did not have ANY money at all. That also had an influence on the history of the Jubii logo. Originally, I found a good font as the basis for our new logo called Dolores from the company Font Font, but since we simply did not have the money to acquire the font, I had to cheat a little.

Scanned in 1996
The starting point for the Jubii logo.
The original black and white scan made with an old hand scanner of the font Dolores.
I scanned the font from a book with an old grey scale hand scanner. I reworded it in Photoshop and the first version of the Jubii logo was made by adding a dark blue border around the type and a smile was suggested, so I created a set of big eyes and a smiling mouth. The trick behind the eyes was that that it had to have big eyes - like eyes on a baby seal. Animal babies have big eyes and people naturally find them nice and friendly.

The blue border and smiley
The Jubii logo started like this, with no shadow and with a darker tone of blue.
Later I redid the logo using some of the vector tools in Photoshop to make a hi-res version of the logo that was a lot smoother. Still the logo was not made as an eps file but only as a hi-res tiff. Not always the best solution.

Updated in 1996
Made in Photoshop
The logo was redone in Photoshop with the vector tools and the shadow is added
Even later I exported it to Illustrator and redid it again. And at the same time I bought the real font. The problem was now the scanning and the fact that I had been reduing the logo twice and had changed the original font to something different.

Remade in 1999
The final version
A lighter blue tone is used and a white line is added around the logo. Remade in Illustrator.
The change that we made to the logo took place over a time period of 2 an a half years.
